Traveling is one of the most enriching experiences we can have. These basic rules for a positive impact when planning trips should be common sense, but unfortunately they are not always followed. Here are five fundamental rules to ensure that you leave a positive impact when you travel to other countries.<\/p>

1. choose sustainable accommodation<\/h4>

Choosing hotels, hostels or local accommodation that follow ecological practices is a significant step. Many establishments adopt green policies, such as using renewable energy, recycling and saving water.<\/p>

Whenever possible, she buys artisanal products and goes to local markets. Eating in family-run restaurants and using local tour guides not only provides a more authentic experience, but also directly helps the economy of the community you’re visiting. Try to book experiences with people in the area directly, but if you can’t find them, using some platforms like EatWith<\/a> or WithLocals<\/a> can help some locals make an extra income and you’re sure to have a different and very authentic evening.<\/p>

At the time (2019) I even worked on bringing it to Portugal, but the project ended up stopping the expansion. Another app that has a lot of points globally is the Refill app<\/a>.<\/p>

It sounds basic, but believe me, it’s not. The most recent example is the situation with the geishas in Kyoto<\/a>.<\/p>

Research the customs and traditions of the place you’re visiting. Showing respect for the local culture, learning a few words in the local language and following the appropriate codes of conduct makes a big difference to how you are received and the impact you leave.<\/p>

I’ll start by saying that I’m very bad at cycling, so it’s always a difficult choice for me. If you can, opt for public transport, walking or cycling whenever possible. These options are not only more environmentally friendly, but also allow for a deeper immersion in the local culture and the discovery of unique places that may go unnoticed by car.<\/p>
